Adequate oral care is a key factor for the prevention of oral diseases or alteration, such as caries, periodontitis, and mouth ulcers. Furthermore, research findings show that poor oral care may negatively impact on general health and could adversely affect patient's quality of life and recovery time. Moreover, there is scientific evidence showing that the use of products with chlorhexidine may reduce the risk of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). It is also important to consider oral care in COVID-19 patients, since it is being observed that these patients present additional problems in oral cavity, such as mouth ulcers. Therefore, there is a rationale to specifically address oral health situations in hospitalized patients in order to improve general health.
